4 Steps for Greenhouse Gas Abatement:
Targeting a greener & healthier future

1. Efficient One-off Use:
Hint: Don’t use non-renewable resources unless absolutely necessary:

*use landscaping instead of air conditioning;
*use a broom instead of a blower or hose;
*use biodegradable agents.

*Consider daylight roof domes instead of lights during
*Solar water heaters - reduce electricity costs.

2. Multiple Use:
Hint: Use lighting to power the solar battery re- charger - save power and money.

What is the 'Greenhouse Effect'?

The term greenhouse ‘effect refers’ to both the terrestrial and the atmospheric condition where air temperature is increased by allowing heat rays to enter an insulated environment. Both forms of greenhouse effect can occur naturally.  The former is generally accepted within the scientific disciplines, while the enhanced (anthropogenic) greenhouse effect, which results from human activities, is subject to ongoing research and debate.

In general terms the greenhouse effect occurs where water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane, ozone and other gases allow warming sunlight pass through the atmosphere while preventing the heat to radiate into space. Initiatives of Australian government concentrate on reducing those gases that have been identified as exacerbating the greenhouse effect, including:

A recent report by the International Climate Change Taskforce has predicted that temperatures will increase significantly over the next half century and that every effort must be made to reduce greenhouse emissions. Of major concern is the emission of CO2 from all commercial sources including agriculture.

* use the same water to wash the clothes, clean
the car and then give the garden a drink.
*Consider waste paper as a valuable mulch.

*desalination plants and other forms of water
recycling consume large amounts of power
*try low energy options first such as separating
waste into cans, glass, plastics.
